Just a few miles that way is home... the Texas Hill Country.
To most people, it's a weekend escape. A day on Canyon Lake. A hike to a hidden swimming hole in Wimberley. A scenic drive through Blanco. A photo in the bluebonnets. And honestly, they're not wrong to come visit...but they always have to leave...and we get to stay.
When I look out over these rolling limestone hills, I don't see a dot on a map. I see spring arriving the only way it does here, slowly, then all at once, until every backroad from Bulverde to Blanco is lined with bluebonnets and Indian paintbrushes, and you find yourself pulling over just to take it all in.
I see mornings on Canyon Lake, where the water is still enough to reflect the sky, and summer afternoons spent tubing the Guadalupe, with kids laughing so hard they can't catch their breath.
I see families gathering under the oak trees at the Historic Blanco Courthouse, live music drifting through Wimberley Square, and evenings at The Screaming Goat, where everyone somehow feels like a regular.
I see Jacob's Well after a good rain, the Cypress Creek winding through town, and sunsets from the overlook at Canyon Lake that remind you why people dream about living here.
I see rodeos at Tejas, farmers markets, Friday night football, and neighbors who still wave when they pass you on a country road.
I see Spring Branch and Bulverde growing, but somehow holding onto the things that made people fall in love with them in the first place. The wide open spaces, the dark night skies, the small town spirit, and the feeling that life moves just a little slower here.
And yes, the wineries, breweries, and distilleries aren't bad either.
I tell people all the time, the Hill Country isn't just a place. It's a feeling. Rustic and refined all at once. Lake days and dance halls. Cowboy boots and date nights. Wildflowers and wide open skies.
We're not perfect, and we'd never claim to be.
But if you really stop and look at what we have here, and take the time to know your neighbors, it's hard to imagine a better place to call home.
