Classic Optical had the incredible honor of hosting the Governor and First Lady of Ohio for a tour of our optical lab this week as part of their visit to Youngstown, Ohio.

Local students in grades K-3 are receiving glasses as part of the OhioSEE (Student Eye Exam) program, and our talented team at Classic Optical made those eyeglasses right here in the Mahoning Valley.

Our team is always proud to support local, and one way we give back to our community is with our annual food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. We are grateful for all they do to combat hunger in the Mahoning Valley.

The employees and customers of Classic Optical could "see" the need of Second Harvest Food Bank and competed the "vision" by holding a food and funds drive for the Holiday Season. Their efforts raised $100 and 270 pounds of food. That is equivalent to 775 meals. We, and the community, "view" their efforts as successful and very much appreciated.

was celebrated by Classic yesterday. The focus this year was on children’s eye health, a topic very dear to us. Please be sure to check out Prevent Blindness for some amazing resources and information, including a toolkit designed to support school nurses, staff, parents and caregivers. We believe in a future where all of our children can see more and be more.

It is with a heavy heart that we celebrate the life and legacy of one of Classic Optical's founding family members, Lora “Skeets” Garfunkel Friedkin, who passed away earlier this month. We express our deepest condolences to her loved ones, as the light of the world feels a little dimmer just now. But we are encouraged to find a way to do good for others and bring some of that light back in her honor.

Our children are our future, and Classic Optical’s home state of Ohio is setting a great example of investing in our future with an announcement from our Governor to ensure every student who fails a vision screening has a follow up comprehensive eye exam and is able to receive glasses if they need them. Way to go Sight for All United for your tireless efforts to help lift barriers for access to vision care!

Sight for All United of the Mahoning Valley and the work of Dr. Sergul Erzurum are leaders in vision care that inspired a new statewide initiative called Children’s Vision Strike Force.

It was an exciting morning to be present for an announcement from Governor DeWine that a local community will receive $10.5 million dollars from the Appalachian Community Grant Program to build a groundbreaking facility to improve health care and higher education for children.
Part of that facility will offer a telehealth vision van for eye exams and screening for more serious eye diseases.
Classic Optical is so grateful for the collaboration between Vision To Learn and Sight for All United to provide access to vision healthcare in our local community, and we are honored to partner with them to deliver eyeglasses to those in need.
