Ohio's newly approved capital budget is bringing significant investment to Muskingum County and communities throughout southeastern Ohio.

Muskingum County
• $10 million for the Muskingum River Lock and Dam
• $1.4 million for Zane State College renovations and technology improvements across its Zanesville and Cambridge campuses
• $200,000 for the Zanesville Gateway project
• $57,000 for behavioral health improvements
• $15,668 for the Stone Academy and local historical preservation efforts

Surrounding Counties
• Coshocton County received funding for fairgrounds improvements, canal restoration, parks, fire training facilities, water infrastructure, libraries, and downtown revitalization projects.
• Guernsey County received funding for parks, the YMCA, fire department improvements, and community development projects.
• Morgan County received funding for jail safety upgrades, emergency communications, fairgrounds improvements, and historical preservation projects.
• Perry County received funding for restoration of the Perry County Opera House and workforce development initiatives.
• Licking County received funding for OSU Newark improvements, Buckeye Lake projects, the Midland Theatre, Newark Towne Center, and other community development projects.

These investments support infrastructure, education, recreation, tourism, public safety, and economic development throughout our region. While projects like these don't instantly increase property values, continued investment in our communities can help support future growth and economic activity.

The Muskingum County Land Bank continues to clean up blighted properties throughout our area, with projects underway at the former Holiday Inn, Kirkbride Marina, and several other locations across the county.

We don't always know what will eventually take shape on these properties, but the Land Bank does a great job of preparing them for future redevelopment. Removing unsafe and abandoned structures creates opportunities for the next owner to turn the property into something useful for the community.

Ohio continues to invest in housing.

Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio was awarded $1 million through the state’s Welcome Home Ohio Program, including $400,000 for property acquisition and $600,000 for the rehabilitation or construction of nine homes across the region.

Housing affordability and supply remain major challenges in many communities. Programs like this help create additional housing opportunities, improve neighborhoods, and provide more families with access to safe, affordable homes. Since the program began, nearly $86 million has been awarded to support the creation of 727 homes in 63 Ohio counties.
