Did you know you no longer have to wait for Florida's Hurricane Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday to stock up on many essential emergency supplies? 🌪️

Many hurricane preparedness items are now **permanently sales tax-free all year long** in Florida! That means you can prepare for storm season whenever it fits your budget instead of rushing to the store when a tax holiday is announced.

Some qualifying items include:
✅ Portable generators (up to 10,000 watts)
✅ AA, AAA, C, D, 6-volt & 9-volt batteries
✅ Portable fuel containers (5 gallons or less)
✅ Waterproof tarps
✅ Mobile home tie-down kits

Thinking about making Florida your permanent home? This is something to keep an eye on. 🌴🏡

Florida lawmakers have approved a proposed constitutional amendment that could increase the Homestead Exemption to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028.

Here’s the important part:
If Florida voters approve it in November 2026, homeowners who establish Florida residency before January 1, 2027 may be able to receive the full enhanced exemption right away.

Those who establish residency after that date could potentially have to wait up to five years to receive the full benefit.

This is not law yet and would still need 60% voter approval, but for anyone considering a move to Florida, it is definitely worth paying attention to.

🌿☕️ Hidden Gem Alert! Family Day at Handcart Garden Center & Miss Julie’s Café 🌿☕️

Yesterday we spent the day exploring Handcart Garden Center, and it turned into one of those outings that exceeded every expectation!

We kicked things off at Miss Julie’s Café & Boutique, and wow… the food was fantastic and incredibly affordable. From Café con Leche to Cuban-inspired menu items like Tampa Cubans and breakfast sandwiches on authentic Cuban bread, everything was delicious. The smoothies were such a hit that the kids actually went back for round two before we left! 😆

After lunch, we browsed the boutique and found so many unique gift ideas, home décor pieces, and specialty items. One fun surprise? They offer samples of their smoothie mixes for adults too—with a little added something extra. 🍹😉

Then it was time for the garden center itself. The plant selection is HUGE. Whether you’re looking for something common or a unique variety you won’t find at the big box stores, they’ve got it. The plants were healthy, beautifully maintained, and competitively priced. We also had the opportunity to chat with Dave, who was incredibly knowledgeable and generous with gardening advice.

One of my favorite discoveries was their hidden rock scavenger hunt for kids. Painted rocks are hidden throughout the garden center, giving children a fun mission while parents shop. When they find the rocks, they can exchange them for a prize! Our kids chose rubber ducks, then re-hid the rocks so another family could enjoy the experience. 🦆❤️

Between the great food, beautiful plants, friendly staff, unique shopping, and family-friendly activities, this was easily one of our favorite local adventures.

If you’re looking for a fun day trip around the Tampa Bay area, this one is definitely worth adding to your list!
