August always seems to go by faster than I expect.

This month was full of showings, exploring different neighborhoods, finding a few new favorite local spots, and spending a lot of time out and about in Carmel.

I love this job because every week looks a little different, and I get to experience this city through the eyes of the people who are excited to call it home.

These are the messages that make all the early mornings and late nights worth it.

I never forget that behind every message is a person or family who trusted me with a really big moment in their life.

Fellow Hoosiers — If your home has been impacted by flooding or severe storms, here are a few important resources to know about:

1. Report your damage.
Indiana uses damage reports to determine the extent of a disaster and what recovery resources may be needed.

For counties and storm events currently activated through Indiana 211:
• Call 211 or 866-211-9966
• Submit a damage report through Indiana 211 online

If your county or storm isn’t listed, contact your County Emergency Management Agency (EMA).

2. Document BEFORE you clean up.
When it’s safe, take photos and videos of all damage before removing anything — including water lines, flooring, drywall, furniture, appliances, belongings, structural damage and exterior damage.

Keep receipts for cleanup supplies, repairs, temporary housing and other storm-related expenses. Once documented, begin safely drying and removing wet materials to prevent further damage.

3. Know what assistance is available.

Indiana State Disaster Relief Fund: Assistance may be available for eligible uninsured or underinsured residents following certain qualifying disasters. Availability depends on the specific disaster and jurisdiction. Check the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) for current information.

FEMA: FEMA Individual Assistance is NOT automatically available after every storm. If a Presidential disaster declaration includes your county for Individual Assistance, eligible homeowners and renters may qualify for help with certain home repairs, temporary housing and personal property losses.

FEMA: 1-800-621-3362

SBA Disaster Assistance: SBA disaster assistance isn’t just for businesses. When authorized for an affected area, eligible homeowners and renters may apply for low-interest disaster loans for qualifying home and personal property losses. These are loans and must be repaid.

Please share this with anyone dealing with storm or flood damage. Sometimes simply knowing where to start can make a difficult situation easier to navigate.

Sometimes this job is long days, late nights, a million emails, and a lot of moving pieces.

But then I get to hand someone the keys to their first home or watch a seller finally close a chapter they’re ready to leave behind.
