🚨 TRUY TÌM GẤP: KẺ MƯỢN 500 TRIỆU RỒI BỐC HƠI – LÊ THÀNH LUÂN 🚨
⚠️CẢNH GIÁC TOÀN DÂN!⚠️

Tôi xin phép không vòng vo:
LÊ THÀNH LUÂN – một kẻ mượn tiền xong lặn không sủi bọt – đang nợ tôi 200 TRIỆU ĐỒNG! 💸💸💸

[RESIDENTS ONLY]

Have your say on Rooftop homes at Brenchley Gardens.

Rooftop homes are new council homes that Southwark Council are looking to build on top of the existing blocks on Brenchley Gardens. When building these new homes they also plan to improve the existing blocks sitting underneath, creating opportunities for residents to shape where they live. Southwark are proposing to work closely with us to develop a menu of options to improve the existing flats in these blocks, the exterior of the buildings and where appropriate provide new services like lifts and improved block entry arrangements.

To ensure that the views of the community on Brenchley Gardens are reflected, please follow the link to the survey below and complete the questions as soon as you can.

Tell us what you think of our proposals so far.

On this last day of October, we close our marking of with a moment to reflect on the importance of respecting the rich variety of names that have come to symbolise the diversity and heritage of the black community.

This video clip appeared during the last week from the American comedian, writer, actor and TV host, Amber Ruffin on the and is an important statement on acknowledging the significance of someone's name and making the effort to say it correctly.

Watch it here: https://fb.watch/1t2MKFvrlS/

Whilst the content is from an American viewpoint, it can certainly be applied universally and the closing words will resonate deeply.

Thank you for supporting our recent posts and we hope that they have provided you with a source of inspiration to explore a bit more and even find out something new. Please leave any comments below, or send a private message, so that we can learn and expand our knowledge further on these important topics.

With Covid-19 still playing a significant role in how communities are living their daily lives, as part of we wanted to share a recent article from Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital about the first black nurse to work for the NHS, Kofoworola Abeni Pratt.

As part of its celebrations for Black History Month, Guy’s and St Thomas’ recently invited staff to join a ‘career conversation’ webinar with senior black nurses and midwives. They shared the challenges they’ve overcome, pivotal moments in their careers and hints and tips for professional development.

Kendra Schneller, a nurse practitioner in the Health Inclusion Team at Guy’s and St Thomas’, said: “Kofoworola has been an inspiration to me because despite the challenges she faced working as the first black nurse in the NHS and in her native Nigeria, she did not let that hold her back from pursuing her goals.

"Her experiences have paved the way for black nurses like myself to be determined to achieve and continue the belief that we are the change makers and the effort must continue.”

Are you sitting comfortably?

As we go further on into October, it's about time that we introduced Tàta Storytime! A brand new YouTube channel from Actor/ Producer Okezie Morro, who explains all about it:

"As a father of an infant child, I would look for content to stimulate my daughter; so my wife and I filled the house with picture books. I had come across the odd TV show that would have a performer reading children's books to children, but after a while I was disappointed at the lack of books that had lead characters that look like my daughter and also the lack of books that reflected our heritage.

So I decided to create a children's TV show where children would get fantastic stories to read to them by brilliant actors; but most importantly those books project forward the voices of African, Caribbean & African American authors; and the lead characters also represent the same background. It's really important that children can see themselves reflected on the page and on the screen as they begin to develop and navigate the world.

Our aim is to educate and entertain children all over the world and redress some imbalances in children's TV programming. I think we've created a beautiful show which parents & all children will love.

Kids stories written by us, read by us, for all." Enjoy!

Ben Okri is a poet who spent his earliest years in London, moved back to Nigeria and in the late 1970s returned to England to study, but when funding for his scholarship fell through he found himself homeless, living in parks and sometimes with friends. He describes this period as ‘very, very important’. ‘I wrote and wrote in that period… If anything, the desire to write actually intensified.’

Okri’s success as a writer began when he published his first novel 'Flowers and Shadows'. He then served West Africa magazine as poetry editor from 1983 to 1986, and was a regular contributor to the BBC World Service between 1983 and 1985, continuing to publish throughout this period. We hope you enjoy this poem by Ben:

An African Elegy

We are the miracles that God made
To taste the bitter fruit of Time.
We are precious.
And one day our suffering
Will turn into the wonders of the earth.

There are things that burn me now
Which turn golden when I am happy.
Do you see the mystery of our pain?
That we bear poverty
And are able to sing and dream sweet things

And that we never curse the air when it is warm
Or the fruit when it tastes so good
Or the lights that bounce gently on the waters?
We bless things even in our pain.
We bless them in silence.

That is why our music is so sweet.
It makes the air remember.
There are secret miracles at work
That only Time will bring forth.
I too have heard the dead singing.

And they tell me that
This life is good
They tell me to live it gently
With fire, and always with hope.
There is wonder here

And there is surprise
In everything the unseen moves.
The ocean is full of songs.
The sky is not an enemy.
Destiny is our friend.

- Ben Okri

The Queen's Birthday Honours List has just been announced and at the forefront is footballer Marcus Rashford (now an MBE (Member of the British Empire)) who campaigned for the government to allow over a million children in England to claim free school meal vouchers in the summer holidays during the coronavirus pandemic. This , whilst we celebrate the achievments of those who receive awards such as this, it is also important that we recognise the significance of the word 'Empire' within these honours titles and understand why some members of the BAME community refuse to accept them because of this connection. This article from The Guardian by Hugh Muir explains further:

For some minority Britons, receiving an honour is deeply problematic, says Hugh Muir, a senior assistant G1 editor
