A SERIES OF MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR ROADS CONNECTING HO CHI MINH CITY TO LONG THANH AIRPORT UNVEILED
Recently, Ho Chi Minh Cityโs Department of Transport has continuously proposed large-scale transportation projects to connect the city with Long Thanh Airport, addressing the growing travel demands. Similarly, ฤแปng Nai Province has initiated multiple road investments to connect the airport with surrounding provinces.
Ho Chi Minh City: Proposing Railways, Waterways, and Highways
According to the Ministry of Transport, the Thแปง Thiรชm โ Long Thร nh light railway is currently undergoing a feasibility study. The starting point is Thแปง Thiรชm Station (An Phรบ Ward, Thแปง ฤแปฉc City, Ho Chi Minh City), and the endpoint is Long Thร nh Airport (ฤแปng Nai Province).
This railway mostly runs parallel to the Ho Chi Minh City โ Long Thร nh expressway, stretching a total of 37.35 km, with 11.8 km in Ho Chi Minh City and 25.55 km in ฤแปng Nai. It primarily serves passengers traveling between Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thร nh International Airport. The total investment is estimated at around 40.5 trillion VND, with the project set to be developed by 2030.
In addition, Ho Chi Minh Cityโs Department of Transport has proposed three waterway passenger transport options connecting the city to Long Thร nh Airport:
Bแบกch ฤแบฑng โ Swan Bay Route: Passengers depart from Bแบกch ฤแบฑng Wharf (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) via a high-speed boat to Swan Bay Marina (Nhฦกn Trแบกch District, ฤแปng Nai). The boat ride takes approximately 35 to 45 minutes. From Swan Bay, passengers will travel by road for about 15 minutes to reach Long Thร nh Airport. This route is ideal for travelers from central Ho Chi Minh City.
Nhร Bรจ โ Nhฦกn Trแบกch Route: Both Ho Chi Minh City and ฤแปng Nai will upgrade the Phรบ Xuรขn and Phฦฐแปc Khรกnh wharves on the Soร i Rแบกp River and expand transport services across the river, connecting Nhร Bรจ (Ho Chi Minh City) with Nhฦกn Trแบกch (ฤแปng Nai). After crossing the river, passengers can follow the Phแบกm Thรกi Bฦฐแปng route (Nhฦกn Trแบกch) to reach Long Thร nh Airport, covering a distance of about 25 km in 40 to 45 minutes. This route is suitable for travelers from southern Ho Chi Minh City, including District 7, Nhร Bรจ, Bรฌnh Chรกnh, and Cแบงn Giแป.
Cรกt Lรกi โ Nhฦกn Trแบกch Route: Ho Chi Minh City and ฤแปng Nai will increase capacity at the Cรกt Lรกi ferry, connecting Thแปง ฤแปฉc City (Ho Chi Minh City) with Nhฦกn Trแบกch (ฤแปng Nai). After crossing the ferry, passengers will take the existing DT 769 road to Long Thร nh Airport, a journey of about 60 minutes. This option leverages the current road infrastructure and is convenient for travelers from Thแปง ฤแปฉc City while awaiting the construction of the Cรกt Lรกi Bridge.
The Department of Transport is also reviewing the infrastructure status of waterways and ports to ensure early implementation to meet passenger transport demands once Long Thร nh Airport becomes operational.

Additionally, the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) has proposed expanding the Ho Chi Minh City โ Long Thร nh expressway, from the Beltway 2 junction to the Biรชn Hรฒa โ Vลฉng Tร u expressway junction, covering 21.92 km. This section will be expanded to 8 to 10 lanes. The Ho Chi Minh City โ Long Thร nh โ Dแบงu Giรขy expressway, which connects to Long Thร nh Airport, is currently showing signs of overcapacity.
ฤแปng Nai: Continual Construction of Roads Connecting to the Airport
On the ฤแปng Nai side, several major road projects have been initiated to facilitate the transport of passengers and goods to Long Thร nh Airport and neighboring regions.
Specifically, the ฤแปng Nai Provincial Peopleโs Committee has approved investment in three provincial roadsโ770B, 773, and 769โthat will connect to Long Thร nh Airport. Once completed, these roads will significantly enhance the flow of passengers and goods between the airport and surrounding provinces. However, the projects currently face challenges regarding planning and land-use changes.
Among these, the 770B project involves the construction of a new 42 km road. It will begin at Suแปi Nho Commune, ฤแปnh Quรกn District, and end at National Highway 51, Phฦฐแปc Thรกi Commune, Long Thร nh District. The road will have a width of 60 meters, with 4 to 8 lanes, and a total investment of over 8 trillion VND, including 3.3 trillion VND for land clearance. The project is slated for completion between 2022 and 2027.
This road will connect the eastern and northeastern districts of ฤแปng Nai with Long Thร nh Airport and industrial zones like Xuรขn Quแบฟ โ Sรดng Nhแบกn and Bร u Cแบกn โ Tรขn Hiแปp. It will also link to the Biรชn Hรฒa โ Vลฉng Tร u expressway, National Highway 51, and Cรกi Mรฉp โ Thแป Vแบฃi port (Bร Rแปa โ Vลฉng Tร u).
Similarly, the upgrade and expansion of Provincial Road 769 spans nearly 30 km, passing through Thแปng Nhแบฅt and Long Thร nh districts. Starting at the Dแบงu Giรขy junction on National Highway 1 (Thแปng Nhแบฅt District), it ends at the Lแปc An junction on National Highway 51 (Long Thร nh District). With a total investment of over 6.2 trillion VND, this project will ensure smooth traffic flow between the southern economic hub and the Central Highlands, as well as connect to Long Thร nh Airport.

For this project, a feasibility study was submitted for approval in July 2024, and necessary procedures are currently underway.
Additionally, Provincial Road 773, spanning over 39 km, will connect Xuรขn Lแปc and Cแบฉm Mแปน districts to Long Thร nh Airport. This route will help alleviate traffic on National Highway 1 and connect to Beltway 4 via Provincial Road 769.
Once operational, these roads will shorten the travel distance by approximately 30 km for those traveling from the northern provinces to Long Thร nh International Airport, as well as other key regions like Nhฦกn Trแบกch, Long Thร nh, and Ho Chi Minh City.
The synchronized infrastructure investments are expected to enhance connectivity for Long Thร nh Airport, boosting the value of nearby real estate projects. Improved transportation will likely drive long-term real estate demand, both for living and investment purposes. Moreover, the opening of the airport will attract increased residential and foreign direct investment. Investors are already positioning themselves for opportunities in Nhฦกn Trแบกch as Long Thร nh Airport nears completion. For instance, projects like FIATO Airport City, set to complete around 2025-2026, have garnered significant attention, with strong liquidity in the market. Investors anticipate growing returns as real estate prices rise when the airport becomes operational.
