🔥 If you own a home - or are buying one - please read this.

There are electrical panels installed in millions of American homes RIGHT NOW that are known fire hazards. Some are recalled. Some can't be insured. And most homeowners have no idea they're living with one.

Here's what to look for when you open your electrical panel door:

🚨 FEDERAL PACIFIC ELECTRIC (FPE) STAB-LOK
Common in homes built 1950–1990. The breakers are known to NOT trip during an overload — meaning instead of shutting off, they let the wiring overheat and catch fire. Look for the words "Stab-Lok" on the panel label. That phrase alone is a red flag.

🚨 ZINSCO / GTE-SYLVANIA
Popular in the 1970s. The breakers can literally melt and fuse to the panel, making them impossible to shut off — even in an emergency.

🚨 CHALLENGER
Installed in the 1980s–90s. Known for overheating and melting. Sometimes rebranded under the Eaton or Cutler Hammer name — so look carefully.

🚨 SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC / SQUARE D (2020–2022)
This one surprises people because it's recent. A 2022 recall covers over 1.4 MILLION units due to risk of thermal burns and fires. Watch for light blue arc-fault breakers inside the panel.

🚨 PUSHMATIC
Identifiable by rectangular push-button breakers instead of the standard flip switch. These age poorly and can fail to trip when you need them most.

What to do right now:

✅ Go look at your electrical panel. Open the door and check the brand name on the door or main breaker.
✅ If you see any of the names above — call a licensed electrician. Don't wait.
✅ If you're buying a home, make sure your inspector specifically evaluates the panel brand during the inspection period.
✅ Be aware: many insurance companies will REFUSE to cover a home with these panels, or will require replacement before issuing a policy.

This is one of those things that doesn't announce itself until it's too late. A panel replacement is a few thousand dollars. A house fire is everything.
