A bittersweet moment at Maitri House 🎭

One of our loveliest and much-loved housemates is about to finish their stay with us and move on to their next chapter.

What makes this one extra special is that they came to us looking for a peaceful place to stay, but over time became so much more than a housemate.

They became a friend, a workmate, and part of our extended Maitri House family.

Watching these connections grow is one of the things we treasure most about opening our home to people from all over the world.

As sad as we are to see them go, we're excited for what lies ahead for them.

Their departure means a rare room #204 is becoming available from 17th June.

Sara, you were one of those souls for us at Maitri House.

We’ve had the privilege of meeting people from so many different countries, cultures, and walks of life… and each one brings something special. But every now and then, someone arrives whose presence is just… gentle, kind, and deeply felt. You were that for us.

I know you always found it hard to believe when we said this to you, but truly—you are one of the most kind-hearted, soft, and beautiful souls we’ve met. The way you moved through the house, with love, warmth, and friendship for others, didn’t go unnoticed. It created a feeling… a softness… that everyone could feel.

Reading your review filled our hearts. Not just because of the words—but because it reflects the connection, openness, and shared experiences that make Maitri House what it is.

A lot of people ask us about the name Maitri House.

“What does Maitri mean?”

It’s a Sanskrit or Pali word that doesn’t translate perfectly into English, but the closest word is “Amity” — a feeling of true friendship, goodwill and compassion toward others who aren’t related to us.

It’s the quiet intention of wishing well for the people around you. 🙏🏽

When we named this home Maitri House 🪷, that spirit was exactly what we hoped to cultivate here — a place where people can live independently, yet share a space built on respect, consideration and ease.

A home where strangers often become friends, where everyone has their own rhythm, and where kindness quietly shapes the atmosphere.

That is the heart of Maitri 🫶🏾

Feeling so grateful reading this beautiful review from Nida. She was one of the very first people to sign up with us (along with her partner) when we opened the doors of our family home as a shared house, and she stayed at Maitri House for 8 months.

Nida truly brought so much light, laughter, and fun to the house during her time here. We loved having her as part of our home and community, and she always be part of the tribe. 🫶🏾
