Transforming Shophouses in Hua Lamphong

This Project is a renovation of three adjoining shophouses in the Hua Lamphong area. Previously abandoned and unused, the buildings have been transformed into a vibrant mixed-use space, designed to attract people back into the area with functionality and creative design.

The building is divided into three main sections. The ground floor features a rear entrance leading to indoor parking, which splits the space into two distinct zones: one for a restaurant and the other for a café, enhancing visibility and accessibility. The upper floor houses an experimental kitchen for world-class chefs, while the top floor is designated as the office space.

A standout feature of the project is a restaurant named sàat, meaning “a collection of knowledge and expertise.” This eatery focuses on serving light dishes made from locally sourced Thai ingredients. The restaurant’s design employs handcrafted materials to preserve a natural aesthetic, deliberately showcasing imperfections for an authentic and raw feel.

The front of the building places the cooking area as close to the street as possible, drawing the attention of passersby through the sight and aroma of freshly prepared dishes. Additionally, a grand entrance archway has been designed to serve as a new photo spot and landmark in Hua Lamphong.

Interior Layout
The kitchen is situated at the front, maximizing interior seating capacity with various arrangements. Materials used in the interior highlight handcrafted elements, emphasizing natural textures and the beauty of imperfections.

This Project not only breathes new life into these abandoned shophouses but also exemplifies a harmonious blend of creativity and functionality. It is set to become a significant landmark and a must-visit destination in Hua Lamphong.

Beauty clinic with an approximate area of 150 square meters, spread across two floors. Originally part of a hotel, the space was separated into a clinic after an agreement with the building owner. The layout divides the first floor into a reception area, examination rooms, consultation room, and storage. The second floor houses an operating room and staff rest and work areas.

The design incorporates flowing curved lines, with the front facade serving as a focal point. The curves, in an oval shape, guide the eye toward the examination rooms, creating a continuous visual flow that connects the spaces without a feeling of confinement. Simple, low-maintenance materials with long durability are used throughout, and most furniture is freestanding. The lighting design features a continuous line of light running along the hallway, with adjustable fixtures to direct light to areas where it’s needed.

The limited space means every area must be practical for use and storage, while also reflecting a unique seaside ambiance with a city vibe.

Located on a corner, the restaurant is highly visible, so an open layout allows people to see inside. The decor includes real reclaimed wood from old boats, adding to the restaurant’s character, along with shiny metallic materials in solid areas, creating a fresh and clean feel.

The 150-square-meter space is divided into three sections: the studio, the relaxation room, and the bathroom. The overall atmosphere incorporates traditional Japanese elements into the design.
