On 9 August 1956, around 20,000 South African women marched to the Union Buildings. They were standing up for something far bigger than themselves.
Seventy years later - South African women are still walking the path paved by the previous generation - through their own front doors.
The numbers tell an empowering story:
In 2015, just under half the number of single South Africans buying their first home were women. By 2025, at 53%, they were in the clear majority.
They're getting there sooner too - the average age of women buying independently has also dropped - from 47 ten years ago to 40 today.
