I proposed a reserve, electrically fenced, stretching from the Cape Point side of Smitswinkel Bay, along Plateau Road and down to Scarborough, more than three years ago, where these troops and the Plateau Road troop would be free to roam, breed and forage under the supervision of animal behaviourists and veterinarians. There would be the option of guided tours in secure electric vehicles, which, like the Boulders penguin colony, which generates some R350 million annually, would be used for their care. Another baboon killed on the Simon's Town Main Road .. if they were living their proper life in the wild, it may be a leopard, but not a car.

We are saddened to report that a juvenile baboon from the Seaforth Troops was hit and killed this morning by a vehicle while crossing Simon’s Town Main Road.

We ask road users to please exercise caution when driving past baboons. Baboons, and juveniles in particular, may unexpectedly attempt to cross the road in front of your vehicle.

Please remain vigilant when using Simon’s Town Main Road, Kommetjie Road, Plateau Road, Constantia Main Road, Rhodes Drive, and Orpen Road as baboons frequently cross these busy roads.
