The South African Reserve Bank has raised the policy rate by 25 basis points to 7.25%, effective 25 September 2026. With the standard 3.5 percentage-point spread, the prime lending rate moves to 10.75%.

So, what does that mean if you’re buying property?
Even a small change in interest rates can affect your monthly bond repayment.

It’s a useful reminder that when looking at property, the purchase price is only part of the picture. Your interest rate, bond term and monthly affordability all play a role in understanding what a property will really cost you over time.

Bingo, laughter and a little friendly competition!

Vicky and I recently had the pleasure of sponsoring a Bingo evening at Othello Retirement Home in Brackenfell. And what a wonderful evening it was!

There was plenty of laughter, excitement and, of course, a few very enthusiastic “BINGO!” calls. For us, it was about more than sponsoring an event. It was about bringing people together, creating a little joy and being part of our local community.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening such a success.

There’s something about the first day of spring that makes everything feel a little lighter.

The sun feels warmer, the gardens start showing off, and suddenly we’re all thinking about fresh starts.
Maybe it’s a new home. Maybe it’s a new chapter. Or maybe it’s simply opening the windows and letting the fresh air in.

Whatever this new season brings, I hope it brings you good things, fresh opportunities and plenty of reasons to smile.

The top 3 things South Africans 🇿🇦 look for when buying a home

You guessed it. Number one is a braai room! Because apparently, a house isn’t truly a home until there’s somewhere to stand around a fire 😉

Number 2 is secure parking - A garage or secure parking is high on the wish list because we care about our cars, okay!

And number 3 - Outdoor space: A garden, patio or entertainment area makes all the difference. Somewhere for the kids, the dogs and the weekend gatherings to take place.

At the end of the day, buying a home is about more than square metres and finishes. It’s about finding a space that fits your lifestyle.

Come for the viewing, not the home inspection. 😉
Open houses are exciting, but there are a few unwritten rules worth knowing.

Shoes off?
If the agent asks, don’t take it personally. The floors have feelings too.

Curious about the cupboards?
Totally fair. Just ask before you start investigating every drawer like you’re moving in tomorrow.

Taking photos?
No problem, but maybe leave the family holiday snaps on the fridge alone. 😂

Bringing the kids or your fur babies?
Keep them close to ensure no unwarranted damage occurs.
