GETTING TO KNOW CAMERON PATRICK | WARD 74
We had the privilege of meeting Cameron Patrick, the DA representative who will be standing in the upcoming November Elections for Ward 74 Hout Bay
As estate agents who live and work in Hout Bay, it’s important for us to understand what is happening in our community, what plans are in the pipeline and, importantly, how we can communicate with the City when problems arise.
We had a great, informative conversation with Cameron and put plenty of Hout Bay’s hot topics to him, including:
💧 Water infrastructure
🏘️ Housing development land
🚗 Traffic
⚓ The future of the Harbour
🏠 Housing in Imizamo Yethu and Hangberg
🏥 The government clinic
🔥 Fire protection and mountain safety
Cameron grew up in Hout Bay and attended Camps Bay High School. He spoke passionately about grassroots education and creating opportunities across all of Hout Bay’s communities.
We also learnt more about the often-complicated process of getting projects moving, with different responsibilities sitting with the City, Province and National Government.
One important takeaway was around how residents report problems. If, for example, you have no water, the first step is to report it through the correct City online channels and get a reference number. If the issue isn’t resolved, that reference number gives the councillor a concrete means to follow up on the problem.
We enjoyed getting to know Cameron beyond the politics too. He loves Hout Bay, enjoys exploring the mountains, the coffee shops and restaurants, and mentioned East Fort for a sunset experience and a visit to the Iziko Lobomi in Imizamo Yethu as two special and meaningful places.
It was an informative morning and it was very encouraging to hear that there is plenty happening behind the scenes in Hout Bay.
We’ll be watching, listening and keeping the conversation going — because being aware of and understanding what is happening in our community really matters.
