House of Apax was honoured to attend the launch of Infinity’s latest porcelain collection at the Norval Foundation, an evening that explored the relationship between colour, light and materiality, and the quiet influence these elements have on the way we experience a space.

Materiality is never simply a finishing touch. It shapes atmosphere, anchors daily rituals and gives a space its sense of permanence. The surfaces we choose quietly influence how we feel, often long before we notice them.

A bedroom should be designed for the person you’ll be tomorrow.

Every detail has a purpose. Cushions that add comfort without clutter. Curtains that soften the first light of morning. Lighting that eases the transition from a busy day to a restful night.

Individually, these decisions may seem small. Together, they create an environment that allows the body and mind to recover.

Because great design doesn’t simply change a room.

It changes how you experience the day ahead.

Design isn’t just about choosing beautiful materials. It’s about knowing why they work together.

One of our intern exercises is to explore a design style, build a physical mood board, and photograph it in a setting that reflects the feeling of the space they’re trying to create.

This brief focused on modern coastal, a palette of soft textures, warm timber, natural stone and ocean-inspired tones, captured where the landscape does half the talking.

It’s a reminder that inspiration isn’t found behind a screen. Sometimes, you have to take it outside.

Rudolph, alongside two Apax junior designers and three student interns, spent the day at Decorex Africa sourcing inspiration, materials and suppliers for projects that will carry House of Apax through to the end of the year.

We’re fully booked for 2026. Every project is accounted for, and we’re now welcoming new clients for 2027.

This year’s showcase was a celebration of bold palettes, sculptural lighting and forms that blurred the line between furniture and art. The most memorable spaces weren’t necessarily the most polished—they were the most authentic.

Design is moving beyond trends. It’s becoming more expressive, more tactile and more intentional. Materials invite touch. Lighting becomes sculpture. Every piece has a story to tell.

That’s the kind of design that inspires us at House of Apax.
