Pringle Bay (Afrikaans: Pringlebaai) is a small coastal town of ca.

1600 inhabitants in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, in South Africa. It is situated at the foot of Hangklip, on the opposite side of False Bay from Cape Point. The town and surrounds are part of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO Heritage Site. The bay is named after Rear-Admiral Thomas Pringle, of the Royal Navy, who commanded the naval station at the Cape in the late 1790's

Situated between Betty's Bay and Gordon's Bay, many of the houses in the small community are only used as holiday houses by their owners. The beach is beautiful and sandy with is frequently empty making it almost private. The town is safe, and family friendly and is home to a number of restaurants and curio shops which serve locals, holiday-makers and passers-by. Approximately 85 km from Cape Town, Pringle Bay is a unique and charming small coastal village situated in a World Biosphere Reserve. Pringle Bay is situated on the famous Whale Route; it is an overwhelming experience to watch those gentle giants from so close by. Pringle Bay is surrounded by mountains on three sides and overlooks the Ocean with Cape Point in the distance. It abounds with wildlife and beautiful flora and is part of the Sixth Floral Kingdom of the planet. The silver beaches are pristine and spotless and the air is clean and unpolluted. There is a small lagoon with clear and warm water where the Buffels River enters the sea. Pringle Bay is one of the few bays in South Africa that face north, and the sunsets are spectacular. Eight restaurants are within a three minutes’ walk from each other. A 5 minute drive will get you to the safe boat-launching facility, 10 minutes to the penguin colony or famous Harold Porter Botanical Gardens, 20 minutes to a variety of golf courses, 45 minutes to the wine estates or to the “Whale Capital” Hermanus, 50 minutes to Cape Town International Airport and just over one hour into the centre of Cape Town. Although very much a resort town, Pringle Bay continues to attract a growing number of permanent residents for reasons of safety and convenience. Many of the weekenders are also expressing long-term plans to retire to the area or move there permanently in the near future. On the other hand our village has over the past years attracted many young families who are conducting their own businesses from home via the internet (ADSL, Wi-Fi and 3G) or commute to Strand, Somerset West, Hermanus or Stellenbosch. The opening up of a private school had made this a viable alternative for young families wanting to live in a beautiful secure environment, away from city life but near enough to all amenities. Life savers are on duty during the holiday seasons and pringle beach is never crowded, even over Christmas. This must have also been the only beach in South Africa, where over the past years not a single car was broken into and not a single cell-phone or towel was stolen off the beach (… and we do not have guards or “car guards” in Pringle Bay). And there is an amazing variety of coastal and mountain hiking trails in Pringle Bay and secluded beaches. With no industry, townships, informal settlements or large scale development allowed in this area, only one road leading into Pringle Bay and no buses allowed, our village has the lowest crime statistic; where else in South Africa would more than 90 % of residents have voted against the installation of street lights? Pringle Bay has active police and MEC reservists, its own fire engine and an emergency medical team with equipment including a cardiac monitor/ defibrillator. Pringle Bay is also the first town in South Africa to have achieved full “firewise” status. Since 2012 the only access road is monitored by CCTV and the number plate recognition system alerts authorities about stolen vehicles or vehicles suspected to be used in criminal activities entering the area. Known for its copious sea life, here you can enjoy the fruits of the sea. There is good fishing and during season you can obtain a permit for 4 crayfish a person, a day. Pringle Bay has a number of guesthouses and self-catering establishments, eight restaurants, two pubs, several shops, a school bus service, a post office, a multi-denominational church, a town hall hosting festivals and functions, a liquor store, a bakery, a laundry, a gym with sauna and massage service, indoor water-aerobics, an art gallery and a hardware shop in the small village business centre. With Pringle Bay “getting younger by the day”, the Pringle House Primary School has been established seven years ago. Pringle House Eco School was recently voted one of the four best Eco-schools in the Western Cape and received the Best Practice Award. One of our fish restaurants was featured on Pasella and our restaurants have received excellent write-ups over the years always featuring in the “best restaurants in South Africa” publication. The local hotel has made its name through Sunday buffets and the recently opened outdoor booma has taken off well. One of our pubs has an entertainment license, it does movie/ auction & karaoke evenings and over weekends hosts well known entertainers and musicians. We have been awarded as the winner of the Cleanest Town! The National Treasury rated our municipality as one of the “Top Ten” among the 286 local Authorities in South Africa in a rating of budget and IDP processes. No surprise then, that our municipality not only has the cheapest rates and taxes in the Western Cape but also compared to any of the coastal towns further north. Pringle Bay’s water plant was recently awarded for its consistent water quality at an amazing 95, 07 % and is praised as one of the 10 top purification plants in the whole of South Africa! Pringle Bay real estate remains a Prime Investment opportunity.

“Taking into consideration Pringle Bay’s Position, Beauty, Conservancy Status, Beach, Safety and the fact that there will be no further developments in the area (resulting in a shortage of properties in the near future), continued capital growth is guaranteed”.
