Natural pools provide a swimming area where the water is cleaned by circulation through a planted ecosystem, eliminating the need for any chemicals in your water. How does it work? The pool itself has 2 separate parts: 1) the swimming area, that looks similar to a normal pool, but where the sides are submerged, and 2) a shallow vegetated area (where plants & microorganisms clean the water). The vegetated area needs to be at least as large as the swimming are (though can be larger).

System Components:
For the natural pool to function properly (ie, keep the swimming water clean), it needs to have the following components:
1) perforated pipe under the planted area
2) well draining stone covering the perforated pipe
3) a pump (can be solar powered) - perforated pipe feeds to the pump location; which needs to be inside something protective but that allows access for repairs etc.
4) some kind of water feature (fountain, mini waterfall, etc.) to provide aeration of the water - exiting the pump
5) an overflow area (it could look like a dry stream bed or the vegetated area could dip down slightly, providing overflow all the way around the pond
