Welcome to the exciting world of Rainbow Homes. We specialise in modular building using 12,19m L x 2,44m W x 2,9m H shipping containers. This building method can be applied to all aspects of society from low, medium and premium cost products both on and off the grid.
Our main focus will be off the grid green living integrating solar, wind, green growing walls, waterless toilets, rainwater harvesting systems, smokeless stoves etc. You dream it and we will build it. No challenge is to big or small. The beauty of this building form is it simplicity. Have a look at some examples of what our architects have come up with.

New to South Africa. Umnyama Ikhaya, which means Rainbow Homes will now be available on South Coast. These homes are designed and manufactured to the highest specifications and offers a completely off-the-grid solution. Perfect to add on if you need a flat or office.
Prices quoted are for the pod home only and excludes land. Our alternative building method has officially been accepted by government and we have 100% finance available through Greenfin Finance. Council approval should take anything from 7 – 21 days once site plans submitted. So make the right choice and let’s make this world a greener, cleaner place.
Repurposed shipping containers are used, for our modular building concept. This is a form of upcycling and uses 95% less energy than recycling that melts down the container. As a result this form of building has a very small carbon footprint with a positive effect on the environment. Landfilling is also not a viable option for the environment so join this initiative.
We support skill development programs and will utilise the services of registered BEE subcontractors on a national basis to assist with on-site work. So whether you are looking to add one of these pod homes in your back yard or launch an entire development no Civil engineering or main water supply needed as this is a completely off the grid solution. Each pod home will however be plumbed so that it can plug into the main water supply and a special inverter system that can be plugged into a generator or main electricity grid in case of emergencies. As there is minimal rates payable to the local municipality they have the obligation to provide a service. This means that in case of drought they will have to fill up your water tanks if rainwater not sufficient.

Each container will be rust treated and fitted with an angled rainwater harvesting chromadec roof. The pod will be partially cladded with Nu-Tec and come with a fully finished kitchen and bathroom. High end finishes all round in bamboo and gloss white with recycled PVC flooring. There will also be a green façade fitted to exterior, for you to plant your favourite creeper or orchid, creating a lovely growing wall.
We will utilise the services of a BEE contractor at all times for foundation purposes. To save cost we will use builders local to the relevant area. This will in turn stimulate the economy by means of job creation and local communities will benefit as a result. Foundations is for your cost. We suggest 6 x concrete piers with 40cm ground clearance as the foundation type of choice.
