Staging tip # 2: Ridding your home of clutter is another simple way to get buyers to focus on your house, not your CD collection. After years of living in the same home, clutter collects in such a way that may not be evident to you, but it does affect the way buyers see the home. Try removing items from countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms. If you have kids, get rid of the toys all around the house. For all you know, the buyers could be empty nesters. Put things in boxes and neatly stacking them in the corner of the garage. Anything extra should go in a small, rented storage unit or ask a friend or relative to hang onto your items for free.

Selling your home? Appearance is everything, so this week we are sharing some simple staging tips that won't cost your the earth. #1, remove as many personal items as possible. It's called de-personalising. While you may love the hundreds of family portraits, or religious artifacts you have on display, there are 2 good reasons to remove them. Firstly, it's a distraction to potential buyer (you'd be amazed how long people will spend staring at pics of people they don't even know) and secondly - it makes it more difficult for them to picture themselves at home when surrounded by your personal items.

Before Xmas wrapping becomes a distant memory, here's our de-clutter idea #4. Also one for the crafters. For easy access to ribbon, slide spools onto a paper towel stand’s post. Stack them from largest to smallest, bottom to top. When done, tape the ribbon ends to their spools to keep them neat.

Our de-cluttering idea #2 is to glue or nail the lids of glass jars to the underside of a shelf to store nails, nuts and bolts in your workshop or garage, herbs in a rustic kitchen, or beads or other hobby items in your craft room. Simply twist the jars on and off the lids as needed.
