In South Africa, many NSFAS-funded students find themselves in overcrowded and substandard housing, which is hardly suitable for effective studying or academic success. To improve these conditions, NSFAS has established norms and standards aimed at removing inadequate accommodations from the system and ensuring students have access to better spaces. However, even well-intentioned landlords often struggle with the complexities of meeting these standards, managing students, and collecting rent, sometimes leading them to exit the sector.

I created this NSFAS accreditation calculator to simplify this process, equipping landlords with clear guidance on compliance requirements and budgeting. This tool is part of a mission to help landlords uphold quality standards and, in turn, provide students with environments that truly support their academic success.

This is the latest list directly from the NSFAS task team of Universities and TVET colleges that will be joining the NSFAS direct payment system pilot project in 2025.
If your institution is on this list you should submit your property in the next 2 weeks for accreditation on the relevant portal to be in time for 2025 intake.
