Gordon's Bay Harbour is one of the best launching points for deep sea fishing on the Western Cape coast — and False Bay delivers.

Local family-run fishing charters operate from the harbour, taking guests out into False Bay for yellowtail, snoek, kob and Cape salmon depending on the season. September is a particularly good month as the warmer spring water brings the fish closer to shore.

No experience necessary. Half-day and full-day trips available. La Dolce Vita is minutes from the harbour — roll out of bed, grab a coffee and you are on the water.

September is prime calving season in False Bay — and it is something else entirely. 🐋

This is not just whale watching. This is Southern Right Whale mothers and their newborn calves, moving slowly through the sheltered waters below Clarence Drive, close enough to the shore that you can watch them without a boat, a tour or a booking.

The calves stay close to their mothers. The mothers stay close to the coast. And from the elevated viewing points on the R44, minutes from La Dolce Vita, you are looking directly down into it.
