THE OCEAN'S WINTER VISITORS HAVE RETURNED
The deep-sea voyagers are arriving in South African waters once again.
THE SOUTHERN RIGHT WHALE ARRIVAL LOG
Origin: Antarctica's icy depths
Mission: A migration of thousands of kilometres to mate and calve in our sheltered bays.
Timeline: Arriving from May to June and departing from November to December.

Code Name: Southern Right Whale
Lifespan: More than 50 years
Length: Up to 15.6 metres
Mass: Around 50 tonnes of pure ocean power
Signature Feature: Distinctive white callosities crowning the head, unique to each whale.
THE GENESIS CYCLE
🔹 Gestation Period: Approximately 12 months
🔹 New Recruits: Calves are born in our bays already measuring an impressive 4–6 metres in length.
THE COMEBACK STORY
Once hunted to the brink of extinction, Southern Right Whales are one of conservation's great success stories. Their population continues to recover at approximately 7% per year — close to the maximum natural growth rate for the species.
