Whale season is one of the most spectacular times to visit Hermanus and the Whale Coast. From around June to November, southern right whales return to our shores to mate and calve, often coming remarkably close to the coastline.

Here are a few of our favourite places to enjoy the show:

📍 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗳 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵, 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘂𝘀
Stretching for around 12 km along the coastline, the Cliff Path offers countless viewing points with uninterrupted ocean views. It's perfect for a leisurely walk while keeping an eye out for whales.

📍 𝗚𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴'𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁
One of Hermanus' most iconic whale watching spots, Gearing's Point offers elevated views over Walker Bay and is a great place to watch whales breaching close to shore.

📍 𝗩𝗼ë𝗹𝗸𝗹𝗶𝗽 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵
Combine a beach day with whale watching. From the shoreline or nearby rocks, you may spot whales just offshore while enjoying one of Hermanus' most popular beaches.
