What do we carry from the places that raised us? And what happens when home becomes part of who we are?

On 19 September, Asisebenze Art Gallery welcomes Azael Langa for The House We Became, a solo exhibition that invites us to look closely at memory, belonging, identity and the spaces that quietly shape us.

Through his evocative works, Langa opens a conversation about the homes we inherit, the homes we create, and the versions of ourselves that emerge from them. It is an invitation to pause, reflect and perhaps recognise something familiar within the stories held in these works.

Come experience The House We Became and spend the day with us in the gallery.

Azael Langa is a fine artist and sculptor who was born
in Johannesburg in 1988 and currently residing and
working in Johannesburg, South Africa.
A practitioner of the artistic technique of fumage,
Langa uses different types of smoke on canvas or
paper to give different kinds of scenarios that take
place in his community.

Langa’s work has been exhibited in international art
fairs and exhibitions around the world including in
Switzerland, the Netherlands, South Africa and the
U.S.A. and featured in publications such as the Sunday
Times (2019), Art Africa Magazine (2019) and Pretoria
News (2011)
