One of the biggest misconceptions about getting rid of mould growth found in a home is that it can merely be cleaned off with a special mould cleaner or chemical. This approach only deals with the symptoms and can often be very dangerous since it may spread the mould and potentially place the people in the environment at further risk of exposure and illness. Cleaning mould without following a proper procedure can also spread the mould growth to other areas in the home.
Mould grows because of excessive moisture in the environment, so a person who understands how mould functions should be called in to first ascertain what is causing the mould growth so that the cause can be dealt with properly. As part of this assessment, mould spore samples can be taken in the air as well as on the surface to determine how much mould is in the air, and to confirm where the mould is growing from. With these two factors clearly understood, through a comprehensive inspection process, with specialized equipment, a skilled mould inspector will be able to put together a mould remediation plan to be followed to properly deal with the source of the problem rather than just the symptoms. Very strict remediation protocols will also be set by the mould inspector for the remediator to fill so that their health and the health of the occupants in the building are protected during the remediation process. Part of this protocol will also deal with containment so that the mould does not spread.
