WILDFLOWER SEASON KICKS OFF AT WESTCOAST NATIONAL PARK

South African National Parks (SANParks) is pleased to announce the start of the 2025 wildflower season in West Coast National Park (WCNP). From 1 August to 30 September 2025, the Postberg section of the park will be open to the public—offering visitors a rare and unforgettable opportunity to experience the region’s seasonal blooms.

Please note that the Geelbek Restaurant is currently undergoing maintenance. To ensure guests are well catered for, food trucks will be stationed at the Geelbek precinct, Tsaarsbank, and Preekstoel areas of the park, offering a variety of food and refreshments.

The flower season annually peak around mid-August to mid-September. Visitors are also reminded that, to get the most out of the flower viewing experience and to steer clear from high traffic at the gates, visit the Park on sunny days and during the week.

Gate times are as follows:

Postberg Section:
09h00 to 17h00 (last entry at 16h30)
General Park Area:
August: 07h00 to 18h00 (last entry at 17h30)
September: 07h00 to 19h00 (last entry at 18h30)

Conservation Fees for August and September:
• SA Adult (with SA ID): R116 per person
• SA Child: R58 per person
• SADC National Adult (with valid passport): R179 per person
• SADC National Child: R89 per person
• Standard/International Adult: R272 per person
• Standard/International Child: R136 per person

The popular “Spring Flowers” guide, developed by the West Coast Region SANParks Honorary Rangers (WCR SHRs), is available for purchase at the Postberg entry gate. This guide not only enhances your flower-viewing experience but also supports the park’s fundraising efforts.

Additionally, the Honorary Rangers have launched two new resources:
• The “West Coast Birding Booklet” for bird enthusiasts
• A fun and educational “Adventure with Captain Gannet” booklet for children

These booklets will be available at the Geelbek Info Centre, Le Petit Maison Restaurant (Farmhouse Hotel), Langebaan Spar, and at park entry gates, where SANParks Honorary Rangers will be on duty throughout flower season.

West Coast Street Mile Series 2023

Langebaan Athletics Club is delighted to announce that we will be hosting the West Coast Street Mile Series in the streets of Langebaan. It will be a first for the West Coast and will span over five Saturdays, beginning on the 27th of May, 17th June, 24th June, 1st of July and the Grand Finale on the 8th of July 2023. The Street Mile Series is literally as stated. Participants will run over a mile over a series of Saturday’s, to be crowned the West Coast Street Mile Champion. This event has been approved by Boland Athletics and the Saldanha Bay Municipality and it is run in accordance with Athletics South Africa (ASA) and Boland Athletics rules. There will be R56 000 prize money up for grabs as well.

The age group categories vary from 9 years old till master athletes up to 70+. All clubs and schools are more than welcome to compete. School athletes must run in their school attire and clubs in their club running gear with a 2023 ASA licence number. Entryfees for the school athletes and junior clubathletes is R30,00 and for senior and masters clubathletes R40,00 per event. The school with the most entries in the series will get a R3500,00 cash and a trophy, and the best athletics club win a trophy and bragging rights for 2023. In each age category the 3 best athletes will be crowned with prizemoney and a specially made winners medal. All winners will boast with new records for the first and historically West Coast Street Mile Series 2023.

Langebaan Athletics club is a local athletics club whose mission is the development of athletics in the West Coast district. They cater for the young and the old, the fit and the unfit and compete in roadrunning, track and field (juniors and masters) and cross-country.
