COMPANY STATEMENT ON THE TRAGIC DEATHS OF WOMEN IN EKURHULENI

Mathiso Family Holding and its management are deeply saddened and disturbed by the discovery of the bodies of seven women in and around Kempton Park and the wider Ekurhuleni area. While police investigations are continuing and authorities have not yet confirmed that all the cases are connected or involve a single perpetrator, the similarities are deeply concerning.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and communities of the women whose lives have been tragically taken. We mourn with every family waiting for answers, and we stand in solidarity with all women who are experiencing fear and insecurity during this painful time.

Our company and its management strongly condemn these killings and every form of violence, abuse and intimidation directed against women and children. Gender-based violence has no place in our homes, workplaces, communities or country. We cannot remain silent while women continue to live in fear or lose their lives through acts of violence.

We call upon law-enforcement authorities to pursue these investigations urgently, thoroughly and transparently, and to ensure that every person responsible is brought to justice. We also encourage anyone who may have relevant information to report it immediately to the South African Police Service.

As citizens and community members, we are called to be responsible watchmen and watchwomen over our city. The Bible says:
“I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night.” — Isaiah 62:6

This calling does not mean taking the law into our own hands. It means remaining alert, caring for one another, reporting suspicious behaviour, supporting vulnerable people and refusing to be silent when we witness abuse or danger. We urge communities to strengthen safe and lawful neighbourhood-watch initiatives, improve communication and lighting in vulnerable areas, and accompany one another where possible—particularly in isolated places.

We call on men, especially, to speak out and act against violence toward women. Men must challenge harmful behaviour, hold one another accountable and help build families, workplaces and communities in which women are respected and protected.
Let every South African become a responsible guardian of the community. Let us watch, pray, report and support—without spreading unverified information, interfering with investigations or confronting suspected offenders ourselves.

Enough is enough. Every woman deserves to walk, work, exercise and live without fear.
May God comfort the grieving families, protect our communities, strengthen the investigators and help justice prevail.
