Tenant Rights When a Landlord Changes Agencies:

1. No Double Admin Fees:

Generally, tenants are not liable to pay a second admin fee if they have already paid an admin or lease fee to the previous agency — unless a new lease agreement is being drawn up.

If the lease is still valid and simply being taken over by a new agency, you shouldn't be charged again.

2. Lease Agreement Still Stands:

Your existing lease agreement remains valid regardless of who manages the property.

The new agency must honor the terms of the original lease unless both you and the landlord agree to changes.

3. Notice and Communication:

The landlord (or new agency) is obligated to formally notify tenants of the change in management.

All rent payments and communication should be redirected only after official notification.

4. New Admin Fee Only If... You might be expected to pay a new admin fee if:

A brand new lease is drafted and signed (starting a new contract).

The initial lease agreement included a clause allowing for such charges during agency changes (check the fine print).

What You Can Do:
Ask for a breakdown of any new charges.

Check your lease agreement for clauses about agency transfers or admin fees.
