Celebrating 93 wonderful years of Lucy Upton!
Today we celebrate the 93rd birthday of the founder of Lucy Upton Properties, and a remarkable lady who has been part of Montagu's story for more than three decades.
In June 1994, Lucy Upton started her own estate agency in Montagu. Before becoming an estate agent, Lucy was a ballet and Spanish-dance teacher, but, in her own words, she simply “could not sit still”! And so began the journey of a business that would become a familiar part of our town.
Among the many wonderful stories from those early years is that the first house Lucy sold in Montagu, was to renowned South African writer Breyten Breytenbach, in Montagu West.
Today, more than 30 years later, the name Lucy Upton Properties continues to be part of Montagu's property landscape, a lasting legacy of the woman who started it all.
And how wonderful that this beautiful photograph of Lucy was taken just last week, a lovely reminder that Lucy is still very much part of the story she helped create.
Happy birthday, Lucy! From all of us at Lucy Upton Properties, thank you for the legacy you created, the countless friendships made along the way, and the very special place you continue to hold in the hearts of so many in Montagu.
