⚠️ A major energy project proposed for the Kouga region is now open for public input — and your voice matters.

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd has proposed the establishment of a Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) generating up to 5200MW, with Thyspunt in the Kouga Local Municipality identified as one of the potential sites, alongside Bantamsklip in the Western Cape.

The proposal forms part of a regulated Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA), requiring public participation before any environmental authorisation can be granted.

The Kouga Business Forum is urging residents, businesses, and stakeholders to get involved, highlighting the importance of community input in a development of this scale.

The Draft Scoping Report has been available for public review since 01 April 2026 as part of the Scoping and Environmental Impact Reporting (S&EIR) process.
