We are Ramsgate, Southbroom & Marina Beach.
Ramsgate is a village on the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. Ramsgate is located on the mouth of a river known by the Zulu name Bilanhlolo ("the marvellous boiler") for the bubbles caused by strong currents making it look like the water is boiling. In 1922 the only person living there was a romantic character called Paul Buck, a painter and violin maker who called the place Blue Lagoon.
Southbroom is a coastal village. The name "Southbroom" was first associated with the area in 1908, when the Swedish Zulu Mission took over the mission from the Eyles family, who subsequently renamed their home "Southbroom"; a reference to a family home in their native England. Frank and Gilbert Eyles, the youngest sons of Alfred, proclaimed the township in 1933.
In 1935, the Southbroom Hotel opened, with its famous tidal pool (known as Granny's Pool) opening two years later. The now-famous golf course was first opened in 1939, before being extended to a full 18 holes in 1948.
Just south of Margate lies Marina Beach, between the villages of San Lameer and Southbroom, an easy hour and a half’s drive from Durban. Close to the Mpenjati River mouth and lagoon, it is a long sandy beach with its own tidal pool and a well deserved blue flag status.
