REMINDER 🚨 ‼️

REVISED PLANNED MAINTENANCE - WATER SHUTDOWN CHURCHILL PIPELINE

17 March 2025

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) had previously scheduled a leak repair on the Churchill pipeline. However, unforeseen breakdowns have made it challenging to accumulate sufficient water storage to mitigate the impact of shutting down a bulk supply line. Consequently, this repair has been postponed to prevent a total collapse of one of the largest reticulation zones in the metro.

Unfortunately, the repair cannot be delayed indefinitely. Therefore, we would like to tentatively inform residents of a planned 24-hour shutdown of the Churchill pipeline on Thursday, 20 March.

Please note that this shutdown is likely to result in low water pressure in certain areas.

Emerald Hill reservoir zone:

- Walmer 7th avenue up to 17th avenue
- Walmer township
- parts of Walmer heights
- Walmer downs
- Charlotte
- Overbaakens
- Newton park
- parts of Fairview suburb
- high areas of Schauderville
- Mangold Park
- Greenacres
- Perridgevale
- Adcockvale
- Parsons Hill
- Glendinningvale
- Mill park
- Linkside
- Mount croix
- Greenacres hospital
- St George's hospital
- Richmond hill
- High lying areas of Central

The shutdown will start early in the morning however water disruptions will only start once storage has been depleted. Therefore it is imperative that consumers use water sparingly over the weekend and during the shutdown so that we can maximize the storage.

UPDATE: Emerald Hill Reservoir Zone Still Experiencing Problems.

13 March 2025.

Maintenance teams have been working throughout the day to get the Schoenmakerskop pumps operational. Bearings have been overheating causing the intermittent pumping of the second pump.

The affected areas include Walmer, Charlo, Lovemore Heights, Newton Park, Schauderville, and surrounding neighborhoods.

It is anticipated that with the limited supply the system will slowly fill up and as soon as the second pump is fully operational this should speed up. A time-frame is difficult to confirm at this stage.

Updates should follow by tomorrow morning. We apologise for the inconvenience.
