Dear Residents,

As we approach the festive season, we remind all residents and visitors that drinking alcohol in public spaces, including our beaches, parks, and pavements, is strictly prohibited under the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality bylaws.

Public drinking not only disrupts the peace and safety of our community but also leads to:

Littering and pollution along our coastline and streets.

Increased noise and disorderly behaviour, disturbing families and elderly residents.

Higher risk of accidents, injuries, and criminal activity.

Negative effects on tourism and family recreation, which are vital to our local economy.

Metro Police and Law Enforcement will be conducting regular patrols throughout Ward 2 this holiday season to ensure compliance. Offenders may face fines and confiscation of alcohol.

Rather support your local pub or restaurant.

Let’s work together to keep our beaches and neighbourhoods safe, clean, and family-friendly. Celebrate responsibly and respect our shared public spaces.

A good read for "nsfas" students that wants to rent privately or through an agent;

The difference between university requirements and NSFAS rules;

NSFAS Policy: NSFAS guidelines state that funded students should use accredited accommodation. This is to ensure providers are legitimate and that the accommodation is suitable for learning and living.

University policy:

While universities prefer students to use accredited accommodation, they cannot force you into it, especially if the student has not applied for on-campus accommodation.

If you are a NSFAS student and want to live in private accommodation:

Choose accredited accommodation: Ensure the private accommodation you are interested in is NSFAS-accredited to ensure your allowance is paid.

Inform the university:

You must inform the university and NSFAS about your chosen accommodation and complete the necessary forms.

What happens if you choose UNACCREDITED ACCOMMODATION?;

NSFAS will not pay the landlord. In such situations, you could either pay your rent yourself, or the allowance might be given to you to manage directly, they cannot deny you your allowance. You just need to follow the correct guidelines above.
