People think I'm just selling houses. What they don't see is that one 'YES' can put dozens of people to work.
●●●● Chronicles of a property practitioner
Sometimes I sit quietly in the sales office of our off-plan development, and from the outside it probably looks like I'm at the very end of the process. Just another salesperson waiting for the next client to walk through the door.
But the longer I sit here, the more I realise something.
I'm not the tail of this development. I'm the heart that gets it beating.
Every home begins with a conversation. A dream. A family willing to believe in a vision that doesn't exist yet, only on paper. The moment they say "YES," something incredible happens.
The architect begins drawing.
The brick supplier receives an order.
The sand and cement guys gets a call.
The plumber and electrician get to work.
Windows are fitted.
Cupboard guy gets to work.
The painting ladies adds their colour to empty walls.
The cleaning ladies prepare the house for the family that will soon call it home.
One decision creates work for dozens of people.
Every now and then, the electrician or the plumber walks into the sales office with a smile and says, "Hello, my sastErrrr."
To many, it's just a greeting.
To me, it's a reminder that we're connected. We are all part of something much bigger than ourselves.
Selling a home has never been just about earning a commission. It's about helping a family start a new chapter while setting an entire ecosystem in motion. Behind every sold home are skilled hands, small businesses, breadwinners, and families whose livelihoods depend on that one "YES."
That's why I never underestimate the chair I sit in or the conversations I have.
Because sometimes, changing one family's future also keeps many other families moving forward.
And that is a privilege I'll never take for granted.
