Get your hiking boots ready, and get active! The scenic town of Dullstroom has some of the finest hiking trails perfect for exploring.
For this reason, it draws hikers from all over to the many hiking trails with the most spectacular scenery.
Here are two of the most popular and stunning Dullstroom hiking trails:
🥾The Ama Poot-Poot Trail.
• Two circular trails, 13km and 6km, totaling 19kms.
• On the Uitvlugt Ponds Game Farm
• Leads to a 10m high waterfall
• Easy to moderate hike
The routes can make up a weekend's worth of hiking or be taken as individual routes.
The Ribbok Route, a stunning 13 km route, goes along the farm. The trail crosses a river and leads to a hill and down to a waterfall. The waterfall is a perfect picnic spot with a rockpool.
The Trout Route, a more accessible route of only 6 km, follows the river for a while.
🥾The Wathaba Hiking Trails, Machadodorp
• 45 min drive from Dullstroom
• On the Wathaba Farm
• 1 - 2 days
• Easy to moderate hike
Set in the mountains on the road between Machadodorp and Badplaas, the Wathaba hiking trails won Best Trail for 2007 and 2012 from the Magalies Voetslaan Federasie, which gives you a good idea of the standard and the popularity of the hike.
Whataba farm has designed two loops.
The Lynx Loop, 10 km of taking in 5 waterfalls and a series of pools that make for beautiful swims. The trail is well marked, 109 identified and marked indigenous trees, and a series of easy-to-follow designated paths with steps, ladders, and bridges soften the scrambles.
Bosbok Route, 4 km, is relatively easy and takes one along a crisscrossing of bridges over the rivers and streams, passing the Wathaba Rainbow Falls along the way. This exceptionally scenic trail is perfect for a picnic and swimming in crystal clear pools.
