Dedicated, supportive and focused, Joey is someone who believes in doing things properly. Meticulous in both her professional and personal life, she values attention to detail, discipline and getting things right. Outside the office, she enjoys reading and treasures time with her children. Ballito is her favourite destination, while Ireland is still on her travel wish list. Her faith is an important part of her life, keeping her grounded and reminding her to approach each day with gratitude.

For Joey, property management is more than a profession. What initially attracted her to the industry was the excitement of solving problems, but over time, that interest developed into a genuine passion. She particularly enjoys working with budgets and finances, and helping communities remain financially sustainable whilst protecting their property value. Navigating complex challenges, aligning different stakeholders and finding practical solutions are all part of what makes her work rewarding.

She believes successful community management depends on strong relationships, informed decisions and a clear understanding of everyone's responsibilities. Meet Heintjie Serfontein, a MidCity Portfolio Manager.

Honest, hardworking and friendly, Heintjie is happiest spending weekends on the farm or enjoying uninterrupted family time around a braai. An outdoorsman at heart, he enjoys hunting, fishing and playing tennis, while a hearty homemade beef stew is his speciality during winter. Paternoster holds a special place on his list of favourite destinations, with Europe, Scotland and Ireland still waiting to be explored. And if there's one thing he can't do without, it's a good supply of biltong and droëwors!

Heintjie's journey with MidCity began in 2008, giving him years of experience in community schemes management. What continues to motivate him is the opportunity to help others, find practical solutions and make a meaningful difference. He believes successful community management depends on clear communication, collaboration and everyone working towards a common goal. As a Portfolio Manager, he values his role as a trusted advisor, supporting trustees with the professional guidance they need to make informed decisions. For Heintjie, few things are more rewarding than receiving a simple thank-you message from someone he's helped.

Meet Elsie Majola, a MidCity Portfolio Manager.

Reliable, caring and adaptable, Elsie believes the strongest relationships are built on trust. Family is at the heart of everything she does. Whether she's spending time with her mother or cooking with her daughters, she treasures the moments that bring the people she loves together. Music has always been part of who she is. She enjoys singing, acting and hopes to one day fulfil her dream of appearing on the big screen.

Interestingly, Elsie never imagined becoming a Portfolio Manager. After working as an Estate Manager, she was given the opportunity to step into the role, with encouragement from colleague Bennie van Dyk. Today, she can't imagine doing anything else. A self-confessed people person, she enjoys building relationships, finding practical solutions and making a positive difference in people's lives. Being trusted to manage communities and their finances is a responsibility she doesn’t take for granted, and that trust always motivates her to give her best. For Elsie, the greatest reward is being there for clients when they need support and earning their confidence along the way.

If she could choose any superpower, it would be to clear her inbox instantly, making sure every email is answered and no one is left waiting for a response.

Always looking for ways to grow, Elsie has recently embraced AI tools to help her research information, organise ideas and improve her writing. She also draws inspiration from her own journey, reflecting on how far she's come while reminding herself that there's always more to learn, more room to grow and new challenges to overcome.

Meet Thabiso Mokgotho, a MidCity Portfolio Manager.

Calm, focused and a great listener, Thabiso enjoys life's quieter moments. Whether he's spending quality time hiking with his family, taking a therapeutic drive or sharing a late family dinner over the weekend, he values the moments that allow him to slow down and reconnect. Cape Town remains one of his favourite destinations, while Namibia is next on his travel bucket list. His children are his greatest inspiration, and he believes a good joke can brighten any day.

For Thabiso, every property has its own story. That's what drew him to portfolio management and continues to motivate him every day. He enjoys not knowing what challenges lie ahead, because each one is an opportunity to solve a problem, learn something new and help a community move forward. He believes the most important part of his role is listening; many residents simply need someone who understands their concerns before helping them find the right solution. His advice is simple: stay involved in your community, not only when problems arise. Hearing the words, "Thank you for your help," is one of the most rewarding parts of his job.

If he could choose any superpower, it would be to fly, perhaps because seeing the bigger picture is often the first step to finding the right path forward.

Meet Riaan Taljaard, a MidCity Portfolio Manager.

Professional, dedicated and respectful, Riaan thrives on challenge. When he's not helping communities grow, you'll most likely find him in the bushveld with his children, enjoying a weekend braai, tackling an off-road cycling trail or putting his cooking skills to good use at home. One of his favourite places is the Kalahari near Van Zylsrus, while Greece is next on his travel bucket list. Fun fact: Riaan is a twin; although not identical, the resemblance is remarkable.

What drew Riaan to property management was the challenge. He enjoys helping buildings overcome financial difficulties, creating long-term growth and seeing communities flourish as a result. His approach is simple: "How do you save a struggling building? You start at its weakest link." By partnering with trustees and providing practical advice and technical expertise, he helps communities make informed decisions that lead to stronger outcomes. For Riaan, the greatest reward is seeing clients benefit from the hard work invested behind the scenes.

If he could choose any superpower, it would be reading people's minds. Understanding what people need, often before they ask, would simply make it easier to support his staff, assist his clients and make someone's day a little better.

His children are his greatest motivation and the reason he strives to become a better man every day. Knowing that Jesus loves us unconditionally gives him purpose, and nothing makes him happier than hearing his children tell him they love him.

One of her favourite adventures was exploring the mountains and river valleys of Swaziland on horseback, while Greece remains high on her travel bucket list. And if there's one thing people are surprised to learn about her, it's that she's a confessed "female MacGyver," always finding a creative solution with whatever she has on hand.

For Iris, portfolio management is about far more than buildings; it's about people, relationships and making a meaningful difference. She thrives on solving problems, building trust and helping clients protect what matters most: their homes and investments. Residents often don't realise that behind every email lies budgeting, legal compliance, maintenance coordination, emergency response and the ongoing management of more than 30 community schemes.
