Earning a commission-based income in an unstable market is by no means easy. The average property is on the market for approximately three months. This means that for every property sold, an agent had to put in three months’ worth of work before receiving any compensation.

It is stressful; the competition is cutthroat; and no money can be made without persistent hard work, discipline, sheer grit and determination.

Most estate agents work around the clock, including evenings, weekends and holidays. They are prisoners to their cellphone; constantly on call, with the expectation that they will drop everything at a moment’s notice to tend to their clients’ every need.

Given that they are assisting with one of the biggest financial decisions of a person’s life; it also tends to be an emotionally charged environment characterized by a great sense of urgency, and no real guarantee of success.

This just in! Minister Tito Mboweni has announced that the threshold for transfer duties will be adjusted. "The amended transfer duty threshold will provide some relief for the entry-level housing market, triggering renewed growth and making it more affordable for first-time buyers to get into the housing market," says Tony Clarke, Managing Director for the Rawson Property Group.
