7 most impressive mega projects in Gauteng in 2022
Gauteng is an impressive city region and probably the largest focus of the South African economy. It contributes to more than a third of the South African economy with growing sectors like finance, real estate and sprawling business services.
According to Africa Business and Travel Guide, these 7 mega projects will greatly contribute to the living conditions of the local population while also creating job opportunities to build on its reputation as Africa’s business, finance and manufacturing hub.
7) Tshwane Automotive Special Economic Zone
This will be the largest automotive city in Africa. Located in Pretoria, it is set to be the hub for car manufacturing in Africa. According to Africa Business and Travel Guide, the first phase will create 8 700 jobs and is estimated to cost R3.4 billion.
6) Blyde Waterfront Project
This is a one-of-a-kind lifestyle estate in Pretoria. It consists of a sustainable, crystal lagoon for swimming and much more.
5) Montrose Mega City Development Project
This is a mixed integrated housing development with lost cost, affordable and upper market residential units, situated in the West Rand region of Gauteng.
4) Vaal River City
This is a new city being developed in South Africa. It consists of 250 hectares of land in Vereeniging, about 66km from Johannesburg.
3) Waterfall City
This is a mixed-use mega-development with a focus on a new urbanist way of life. It aims to be a vibrant, modern destination catering to offices, retail and residential.
2) Lanseria Smart City
The buildings in the city will be designed to optimize vertical integration with retail at ground level, offices above this and residential apartments, penthouses, and hotels above it all.
1) Mooikloof Mega Residential Project
This project has been billed as the largest housing project in the country to date. The estimated time of completion is 2030 and has a total project value of R84 billion.
