The largest privately owned residential mega yacht in the world, named The World, has anchored at Mossel Bay in the Western Cape. According to a press release on its website, Mossel Bay is only one of three destinations in South Africa which the ship is visiting. It arrived in Cape Town last month and will travel to Durban from Mossel Bay. Resident owners of this private community at sea travel to more than a hundred ports a year. The ship's arrival in Cape Town followed an expedition to Antarctica in January, and a two-week journey to South America. From South Africa it will sail up the African east coast to Mozambique, Zanzibar and Kenya, before travelling to the Seychelles. Residents decide the ship's annual itinerary well in advance, with South Africa being a favoured destination which has been visited on seven previous occasions.
