Up on LEVEL10 at Blackbrick Umhlanga, design practice Studio Kalki is shaping the bar and restaurant for our upcoming coastal opening.

Led by architect and artist Nikhil Tricam (Nikhil Tricam) and architect and artist Nindya Bucktowar (Nindya Bucktowar), the practice concentrates on functional art that blends the precision of fine steelwork with tactile handmade ceramics, leather, and stone.

For our rooftop bar, Nikhil has created a beautiful piece of functional art, cladding the focal counter in rich leather.

Great hospitality spaces are shaped by local material culture and a collaborative community .

Doors open 1 December 2026.

In Conversation: Art × Fashion × Design

An intimate evening launching the installation, featuring a screening of the Walepogo short film and reflections from artist Nwabisa Ntlokwana, followed by a guided walkthrough of the installation.

Art × Fashion × Design at BlackBrick brings sculptural forms by artist Nwabisa Ntlokwana together with photographic visions by photographer HANARDY💎 of design studio SeeMee, in a cross-continental exchange between South Africa and Ghana that treats heritage as something to disrupt, reassemble and reinvent.

Co-curated by Maropeng Maphala and Christina Fortune, the works move between object, image and architecture, with photographs expanded into large-scale banners that transform our space so guests experience contemporary African visual culture as a living part of the stay.

Raw concrete apertures framing the coast. Brutalist stairwells cutting through the core. Between the exposed timber and the matte black textures of the rooftop, the building is settling into its permanent rhythm.
