What is NAMA - and what is its role in community scheme management?
NAMA stands for the National Association of Managing Agents.
It is a voluntary, non-profit industry body that represents and promotes professional managing agents in South Africa, particularly within the community scheme and sectional title environment.
NAMA’s role is to:
• Promote professional standards in scheme management
• Support ongoing training and development of managing agents
• Encourage ethical conduct within the industry
• Represent managing agents’ interests nationally
Importantly, NAMA is not a regulator and does not have legal jurisdiction over schemes or trustees. Regulatory oversight in community schemes sits with bodies such as CSOS (Community Schemes Ombud Service), while scheme governance is guided by the Sectional Titles Schemes Management Act and related legislation.
Membership with NAMA demonstrates a commitment to professionalism, education and industry best practice - which ultimately benefits trustees and owners.
At Compeg Services, we believe informed governance and professional standards are essential to protecting property values and maintaining well-run communities.
