Selling your home? Don’t let rates clearance catch you by surprise.

The excitement is real… until someone starts talking about a Rates Clearance Certificate. 😅

Before the transfer of your property can be registered, the municipality needs to confirm that the required rates, taxes and municipal charges have been paid.

As the seller, you may need to settle outstanding amounts and pay certain municipal charges in advance to obtain the clearance figures. If the property transfers before that full period has been used, the applicable credit may be refunded to you — although this process can take some time.
