The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) has raised the repo rate by 25 basis points, taking it to 7.25%.

As a result, the prime lending rate increases to 10.75%. The decision was announced today, 23 September 2026, and was unanimous.

So, what does this mean for homeowners and prospective property buyers?

On a 𝐑𝟐 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝟐𝟎-𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞, the increase works out to approximately 𝐑𝟑𝟑𝟕 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 or around 𝐑𝟒𝟎𝟒𝟒 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫.

While 0.25% may sound small, changes in interest rates can have a meaningful impact on monthly affordability, borrowing costs and household budgets.
