South Africa’s prime lending rate has increased to 10.50% following today’s SARB announcement. That’s the first rate hike in quite some time, and it will definitely be felt by homeowners, vehicle finance clients, and anyone carrying debt.

Interesting comparison:
This time in 2024, the prime lending rate was sitting around 11.75%, so although today’s increase is not ideal, we are still lower than where we were a year ago.

For the property market, affordability remains key. Buyers may become slightly more cautious again, but well-priced properties will always attract attention.

The SARB increased the repo rate to 7.00% today, which moves the prime lending rate to 10.50%.

Historical rate references show the prime lending rate was around 11.75% during 2024 before rate cuts during 2025.
