The front gable of the Du Toit se Skoenwinkel (Shoe Store). The shop was built in 1947 by Willie du Toit who was married to the artist Susara de la Guerre. They lived across the street from the Moederkerk in Stellenbosch where Susarra de la Guerre had her studio.

People frequently ask who the De La Guerre was whose name appears on the front gable of the Du Toit Building in Andringa Street in which the offices of Sothebys are located.
Susara De La Guerre was born in Oudtshoorn in 1904. In 1922 she moved to Stellenbosch to study art. Canitz was her first teacher. Later she continued her studies in Munchen, Germany, under professor Kurt Lauber. People who were interested in the unusual, were drawn to her paintings in which poetry and mysticism, and psychic images drawn from the subconscious, abound.
