Het julle al gewonder oor die groot houtstompe en stukke dryfhout wat hier op Bosbokduin se strand uitspoel?

Elke stuk hout dra eintlik sy eie klein seestorie. 🌊 Dit kan deur storms en seestrome oor ’n groot afstand vervoer word voordat dit uiteindelik op ons strand beland. Die sand, soutwater en seelewe skuur en verander dit met tyd — totdat dit amper soos ’n beeldhouwerk van die see lyk.

So volgende keer as jy ’n houtstomp op die strand sien, kyk ’n bietjie nader… 👀
Miskien kyk jy na iets wat ’n hele ent van hier af begin het.

Seasonal rains have woken up many of the reserve’s geophytes, and, not to be left out, smaller annuals and fynbos species have donned their winter finery to join the revival.

With splashes of white, purple and yellow breaking through the greens, wildflower beauties like Crassula capensis, Romulea flava and Oxalis are now in full bloom.

As these cooler months unfold, our familiar trails and pathways hold satisfying floral rewards for those who take the time to revisit them.

Nature quietly announces the changing seasons long before we turn the page on the calendar.

While winter still lingers, the first signs of spring have begun to reveal themselves across the reserve. Delicate blooms are emerging one by one, offering a glimpse of the spectacular floral display still to come.

Spring 🌼 is here
𝘋𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘢 𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘢, commonly known as the painted sundew, is a striking fynbos flower with wafer-thin petals. But beneath its delicate appearance lies a rather ingenious survival strategy, perfectly suited to the Cape’s nutrient-poor soils.

When the winter rains arrive, this beauty emerges from its summer dormancy and puts on a spectacular, and somewhat enticing, floral display.

While its pretty blooms attract the most attention, the leaves welcome a different kind of visitor. Edged in tiny sticky droplets, they effectively trap unsuspecting insects, which the plant slowly digests to absorb the essential nutrients it needs to thrive.

It's great to see visitors to Stilbaai exploring everything our beautiful area has to offer— from the sea and sandy beaches to the countryside and our popular bass fishing dams.
