Nick, what was it about Glentowy that made you feel it belonged in the Seclusion portfolio?

“Glentowy has the qualities we always look for in the Seclusion portfolio: a rare setting, a strong sense of privacy, and a property experience that feels rooted in place rather than manufactured.

What stood out immediately was that it is not simply another beautiful rural property. The landscape, the views, the sense of space, and the quietness all work together to create something memorable. That is central to Seclusion — places that feel discovered, not developed.

The setting is peaceful and private, surrounded by trees, open skies, and that deep sense of stillness you only really get in nature.

At the centre of it all is a timeless homestead with the feel of an old Rhodesian farmhouse. Its wide, welcoming stoep is made for slow afternoons, long conversations, and simply taking in the views.

It’s a place where nature, nostalgia, and simplicity come together — spacious, quiet, and completely unhurried.”

✨ Introducing Jardin de la Ferme — Franschhoek ✨

What we love most about Jardin de la Ferme is the feeling of arrival. You pass through the gentle bustle of the village and, almost unexpectedly, the farm opens before you — ringed by mountains and wrapped in calm. The shift is immediate. As the gates close behind you, the noise softens, the pace slows, and tranquillity settles in.

Jardin de la Ferme, meaning garden farm, sits in the foothills of Franschhoek, chosen for its exceptional position and sweeping 360-degree valley views. In every direction there are vineyards, mountain ridgelines, and open skies stretching for miles. There is a lushness here that feels almost European, as if you have wandered into a quiet French village.

Set on eight hectares of farmland, the property is made up of manicured French-style gardens, vineyards, horse paddocks, and freshwater dams — each adding to the timeless charm of the farm.

Accommodation is spread across seven buildings. The Manor House, a traditional thatched home, anchors the property and proudly retains its original character. The remaining six cottages were thoughtfully rebuilt as modern farm cottages — light, fresh, and welcoming. We selected furniture from local South African makers to ensure each space feels calm, considered, and comfortable.

Inside, high timber ceilings and herringbone wooden floors are softened with earthy greens, warm neutrals, and subtle floral touches that echo the landscape beyond the windows. Each cottage is painted sage green, blending naturally into the surroundings.

One of Jardin’s great joys is its proximity to the village. You can stroll down for fresh croissants and warm baguettes, then wander back to enjoy them on the verandah with coffee and birdsong. Franschhoek’s celebrated restaurants, galleries, and w**e farms are all moments away — perfect for long lunches and leisurely tastings.

For those who like to stay active, the area offers hiking, mountain biking, swimming, and horse riding. For others, doing very little at all is just as rewarding.

Jardin de la Ferme is a place for everyone — families, couples, friends, and celebrations. Book one cottage or take the entire farm for a private gathering filled with connection, ease, and time together.

Franschhoek has always been one of our favourite places. Its French influence, romantic spirit, and celebration of food, w**e, art, and culture continue to draw us back. Jardin de la Ferme sits at the heart of it all — a reminder of why this valley feels so special.

There are places that ask you to slow down the moment you arrive — and Flamingo 🦩 Cottage is one of them.

Set within the West Coast National Park, Churchhaven is where crystal-clear lagoon water meets protected nature reserve. This stretch of coast feels like a quieter, wilder kind of escape — shaped by tides, light, and nature’s rhythm.

Nick, when you first arrived at Flamingo Cottage, what made you stop and think, “this place is special”?

“It was the position. Flamingo Cottage sits right at the end of the cul-de-sac — completely private, with uninterrupted views and no roads in front of it. Even though there was another home closer to the beach, I chose this one. No homes could ever be built in front of us, and that sense of seclusion made the decision clear.”

Sally, what makes Flamingo Cottage perfect for the Seclusion portfolio?

“We’d been coming to Churchhaven for over 12 years. When this property came up, it stood out immediately. It didn’t have the right flow, but we knew we could change that. We reworked the footprint into four en-suite bedrooms, with open kitchen, lounge, and dining spaces that finally suit the setting.

Today, sitting on the patio feels like complete escape — eland, bontebok, flamingos moving quietly through the landscape, birdsong overhead, and the soft sound of the ocean beyond.”

And finally, from Gem, Scout & Finn: if you were showing Flamingo Cottage to a friend, what’s the MOST fun thing to do there?

“The best part is swimming in the crystal-clear lagoon, canoeing along the shoreline, and spending the day at one of the most beautiful beaches we’ve ever seen — with the people you love.”

✨ Kob Crescent Part Two — Shaped by Family ✨

If the architecture of Kob Crescent was guided by restraint, the soul of the home was shaped by family.

Nick:
“Our family influenced the house more than they probably realise. Sally has a way of softening spaces — listening to how a home wants to be lived in, not just how it should look.”

One of those moments was the pergola.

Nick:
“The see-through roof was Sally’s idea. I resisted at first, but she was right. It changed everything — bringing in light, framing the sky, and keeping us connected to the outdoors even when sheltered.”

Practical decisions became deeply personal. Instead of building new wind protection, century-old doors salvaged from a past development were repurposed.

Nick:
“Those doors already had history. Now they protect this home too. They carry warmth, memory, and character — things you can’t replicate.”

Kob Crescent grew into a place made for living: pizza nights by the outdoor oven, long afternoons drifting on the river, kids exploring freely, and slow evenings that blur into memory.

It’s a home shaped by instinct, patience, and family — a place that doesn’t try to impress, but quietly stays with you.

✨ Kob Crescent Part One — Where Seclusion Began ✨

Kob Crescent will always hold a special place in our story. Long before Seclusion had a name, this stretch of riverfront on the Breede quietly became the foundation of everything that followed.

Set along a peaceful bend in the river, Kob Crescent is framed by wide lawns, towering trees and water that has a way of slowing time. Mornings start barefoot on the deck, days drift between the river and the garden, and evenings settle around a fire as boats glide past and the hills soften into dusk.

From the beginning, the architecture was about belonging — not dominance.

Nick:
“The boldest decision I made was choosing not to knock the house down. Every instinct told me to start again, but something about the bones of the structure asked for patience. Instead, we worked with what was already there.”

Over two years, slate was collected from neighbouring farms — stone by stone — and used to fully clad the home.

Nick:
“That slow process changed everything. The house stopped standing apart from the landscape and began to dissolve into it. It felt grounded, as if it had always been there. That decision shaped how we approach every Seclusion property today.”

Kob Crescent isn’t about spectacle. It’s about harmony — with the land, the river, and the rhythm of family life.

This was the beginning.

Nick and I are so excited to welcome you to Seclusion — our dream getaways that have all come to life over the last few years.
As husband and wife, we began this journey together: Nick with his passion for property development and vision for creating places that feel timeless, and I bringing in my love for interior design, beauty, and family.

When we founded Seclusion, our goal was simple: to build more than homes — to craft meaningful escapes. We wanted places where families (ours included) could step away from the rush of city life, and reconnect with nature, with one another, and with themselves. On our website, you’ll see our carefully curated portfolio of properties tucked into some of South Africa’s most enchanting corners: wild riverbanks, sunlit w**e valleys, coastal retreats, and serene mountain hideaways.

These places are deeply personal to us. Nick the connoisseur in find the perfect position — the land, the structure, the layout — and I followed with interiors, colour, and warmth. Together, we’ve poured our hearts into each property, rebuilding them with care and intention so that when you walk through the door, you feel peace, comfort, and the freedom to just breathe.
