Seeff Witsand/ Port Beaufort is here for you! Witsand is a small coastal village accessed via a tar road which branches off from the N2, 35km away. Witsand is crime free, we really live a dream life here! This is where the Breede River meets the Indian ocean, and the result is a an incredible estuary, which spans approx 2km at its widest point, the source of the Breede river is some 300km away, in the mountains at Worcester. Predominantly holiday homes, approximately 400 permanent residents, with some overseas residents also spending their summers here. Not commercialised at all, there are two general dealers and a handful of restaurants. The big attractions are the estuary, for it’s excellent angling and boating, and the river is also hugely popular with kite surfers. Witsand is 200km from George (airport) and 300km from Cape Town. The closest big town is Mossel Bay, which is 150km east of Witsand. Smaller towns nearby are Heidelberg, ±34km, Riversdale – ±70km and Swellendam – ±96km away. The main swimming beach at San Sebastian bay goes on for a few kilometres, and one can find a spot to relax in total privacy, on any given day. There is easy access to both the river/estuary and the sea from many access points. During peak season, the village can accommodate up to 5000 people – but it still remains laid back and peaceful. Witsand is also the official breeding ground of the Southern Right whale, so from May to November each year, we are visited by up to 170 of these magnificent creatures, who come in to calve in the bay.
