One of Yzerfontein's most fascinating landmarks isn't a building or a monument – it's a tractor.
Back in 1979, a tractor was sent onto the beach to rescue a vehicle stuck in the sand. The rescue was successful, but the tractor itself became trapped and could never be recovered.
Over the decades, shifting sands, winter storms and changing tides have buried and revealed its rusted remains time and time again, turning it into one of Yzerfontein's most iconic local legends.
Some days it's completely hidden beneath the sand. Other days, visitors are lucky enough to catch a glimpse of its weathered frame emerging from the shoreline.
