π¨ TENANT NIGHTMARE STORIES π³π
A landlord in Zambia shared this experience, and honestly, it raises some serious questions for anyone who rents out property.
His tenant had gone three months without paying rent. After several attempts to get the tenant to pay, the tenant eventually moved out. However, he left a lot of his belongings inside the house and didn't hand over the keys to the landlord. The landlord assumed the tenant would come back to collect his things and properly hand over the property. A few days later, the landlord went to check on the house. To his surprise, the tenant's mother was now staying there. When the landlord contacted the former tenant and asked what was happening, the tenant apparently explained that his mother needed somewhere to stay. The landlord was obviously unhappy because there was no agreement for anyone else to move into the property. Then, a few days later, things became even more confusing. The landlord went back to the house and found another man there whom he didn't know. When questioned about why he was there, the man mentioned the former tenant. The landlord contacted the former tenant again, and he came to the property. At this point, the landlord realised that a simple issue of unpaid rent had turned into a much bigger problem.
Imagine renting out your house, going months without receiving rent, and then discovering that other people are staying there without your permission. π€¦ββοΈ
It also raises an important question for landlords:
When a tenant stops paying rent and leaves their belongings behind, what is the correct way to handle the situation?
